You may have noticed the POLL on the right hand side bar of the blog - asking about what you know about "damage to property worked upon". Please take some time to take part in the poll as it will help us gain more knowledge of how many cleaners actually understand their policy cover.
We are constantly shocked and surprised at the number of cleaners who don't appreciate what this very confusing jargon actually means to them.
Well I hope to help to explain a little here for you.
"Damage to Property Worked Upon" = Damage to the item you are cleaning.
If you have window cleaning insurance, then that means the glass, the frame, the sills etc.
If you have domestic cleaning insurance, then that means the TV, the glass table, the toilet/sink etc.
If you have contract cleaning insurance, then that means the PC, the managers desk, the display cabinet etc.
If you have carpet cleaning insurance, then that means the carpets, rugs, curtains, blinds etc.
Unless you have chosen a specialist broker/insurer then your policy will contain somewhere an endorsement that excludes cover for "damage to property worked upon" or at best restricts the cover provided.
The most shocking case we saw, was of a window cleaner who completed a builders clean and scratched every window pane leading to the house builder sueing him for £70,000 - the cleaner thought he had the cover but you can imagine how he felt when the insurers turned around and denied his claim. He wasn't a client of ours, but had bought his cover from his local broker.
It is absolutely vital that you check your policy cover now - GLEAMING INSURANCE can review it for you if you don't fancy wading through 50 pages of insurance speak - just get in touch : office@gleaminginsurance.co.uk
Imagine if you were the customer - would you be happy to employ a cleaner knowing that they didn't have the full cover - would you let them into your house knowing your items were properly protected ?
The covers costs more than the usual standard policy that your high street broker will provide. There is no getting around that, but it does give cleaners the full cover that they need and hence great peace of mind.
Don't put your business or personal finances at risk by taking a cheap inferior policy - make sure you put the cover first and then get the best price - you can do both at GLEAMING INSURANCE.
